Well, this came as a shock.
I do not buy the "science and religion are non-overlapping magesteria" idea. Religious faith is NOT a virtue, it's a vice. Full stop. End of story. No accommodationism for me.
That doesn't mean that religion organizationally doesn't do some good in the world or produce good feels for some folks. Or that the selective application of dogma in certain ways can "answer" certain questions (for some given value of "answer" ) for some people.
My only clarification is that there are two dictionary definitions of "faith" and they are near-polar opposites. Faith in the colloquial sense of "justified trust based on evidence, experience or logical argument" is fine. When I talk about that I use the word "trust". Religious faith on the other hand (affording belief to assertions about the supernatural without requiring that they be legitimately substantiated) is a horrible idea that causes many concrete harms in the world.
