I used to do that for the ex-husband/father of my children, for the sake of the children. Once they were old enough to do the thing for themselves, I stopped. They never did it on their own, but then, their father never acknowledged their birthdays or any other gift-giving occasions, either. He still does, however, blame me for the kids ignoring him.
