The Fireflies are here. Anyone else see them in their yards or nearby?

Summer a few days away and the warm light breeze evenings bring out fireflies in my backyard. Last night is was perfect and hundreds of them were flickering. There is marshland nearby so a good area.

Fireflies are not common in the West. I have only seen them west of the Mississippi one time, oddly in the mountains of New Mexico.

There are no fireflies out West. I grew up in Michigan. At age 21, I moved to Washington State to climb mountains, and stayed.

What I miss about living in Michigan:

  1. Great Lakes
  2. Fireflies
  3. Cardinals (beautiful red birds)
  4. Gorgeous fall colors.

Washington State is called the "Evergreen State" for a reason. But we have the Cascade Mountains, Olympic Mountains and the Pacific Ocean.

Visiting my parents in Michigan, I scanned the horizon for my beloved mountains.

At least we have cardinals in Arizona.
