My Father's Day kind of sucked. Even though I have awesome kids.

I am at a friends apartment last night, time to leave. I go downstairs and turn to walk toward home. Nothing unusual, feel fine.

All of a sudden, my right quadriceps feels like it explodes. I drop like I've been shot, searing pain. I avoid hitting my head on a concrete planter, though I badly bruise my right knee and foot. I am able after a couple of painful tries to get up, and one-leg up three flights of stairs to my buddies place. The pain isn't bad unless I bend my right leg in certain ways and importantly, I can now bear weight on it if I keep it straight. I spend the night there.

To the hospital today. Xray, knee boot, crutches. MRI tomorrow, plus consult with the orthopedic department.

The ER doc advises I have a quadriceps tendon tear. The surgery, as surgeries go, doesn't sound too bad with likely one night before being discharged. Then some amount of physical therapy.

Ouch.......

I had a similar experience several years ago with a knee ligament. About a month previously I had fallen and my knee was painful. I gimped around for a few days and thought all was well. Then a few weeks later went to take a step, pain was excruciating and I collapsed. The ligament apparently had partially torn with the first fall. Lots of PT, but now it's fine. Get well soon!

Thank you.

Wish you all the best, and speedy recovery.

Crappy Dad's Day man. I hope you heal up and are able to figure out why it happened.

As a doctor, I would wonder why it happened in order to try to prevent another occurrence, although it is likely never to know exactly what happened, but these things don;t just drop out of the sky. There is/was a reason. There are questions I would ask, but won't do it under these circumstances. Too public!!!

I see the orthopedist Wednesday. Best explanation? I am older and do fairly intense exercise. But likely never know a specific cause. We'll see after surgery.

That does sound painful. I hope they give you good pain meds and you make a rapid and full recovery.

Actually, I hurt little IF I keep the leg fairly straight, can bear weight no problem. The pain is if I bend the leg and then try to raise it or support weight. Ouch............

@Mitch07102 I have bad knees mine are like that everyday

@whiskywoman Sorry to hear it. I never get sick and this is the first time in my life I've had more than a bruise. I don't like it........

@Mitch07102 im not usually sick either but I worked this old body hard for many years buying kids and more some parts just wore out and a bad fall didn't help

That is definitely a sucky day. When your leg is all better, you deserve a do-over for Father's Day.
