I'm done. I'm just going to start telling people that their beliefs have no basis in reality.
They can take their prayers, wishes for a "blessed day", and all their other delusional nonsense, and stuff it.
Enough already. The longer we indulge this bullshit, the longer it's going to take to eradicate it.
Being 'nice' about it accomplishes nothing.
I am done.
In those case I just say: "Sorry, I'm not religious". Even in Georgia the accept that.
i recently had a man coming at me with leaflets, trying to stuff me with the lie. i told him that i'm an atheist. he reacted: oh, that's sad. so much for respect. i told him that HE was a sad little man. but still, anyone in the street can just insult you?
@walklightly I never say "I'm atheist", for many it means "I'm the enemy". That's what the churches put in peoples minds. Saying "I'm not religious" apparently leaves all the options open. But, to be honest, I never asked what they thought about it. When they would say "that's sad", I probably would ask why he think it's sad. I can't wait till it happens to me .
I'm with you as your comment relates to the complete frustration. The one thing that has me use diplomacy is knowing it just gives believers more fuel to think atheists are mean, or just lost. That reaction to them can be written off as a lack of belief.
What really throws people is when they discover I'm an atheist, despite all the charitable work I do and all the causes to which I donate.
They are utterly confused and then a great conversation begins.
Ok... but stay safe! Be passive aggressive by leaving written notes, don't shout it in people's faces. You could get shot!
No written notes. I'm saying it out loud, and right to their faces. I don't do passive/aggressive.
@KKGator, here & now i pledge for the future to simply point out to every believer who comes at me with the lie that she/he is deluded. calm & firm.
@walklightly Attagirl!!!!
