History revisionists almost succeeded with Akhenaten, who invented monotheism. Upon his death in 1336 BC he and his wife Nefertiti were removed from inscriptions. He was all but lost from history until the discovery during the 19th century of the site of Akhetaten, the city he built and designed for the worship of Aten.

I find the destruction of Confederate history as abhorrent as the Taliban destruction of pre-Islamic artifacts. We might expect religious types to be zealots. Sadly, fanaticism seems to have taken hold in the culture wars. I have great-great-grandfathers on each side of the conflict. I am no less proud of any. Changing the names of schools is small stuff. The real effort should be directed toward elimination of school tax credits that redirect public funds toward private, segregated schools.

Stuart was a graduate of West Point and was wounded in the Indian Wars. He resigned as a Captain in the U.S. Army because his honor demanded loyalty to Virginia.

What a turn around for the former capital of the Confederancy. It was also the capital of tobbacco.

This is good news, part of the slow march toward an inclusive society. With the current political environment sporting three alarm fires almost daily, these kinds of stories of hope and cultural change that used to be front page news are often lost in the noise of constitutional crises, inhumane policies, and criminal activity of this administration.
