A lady in my office lost her mom last night, so the obligatory sympathy card pass-around has started. So many ridiculous offers of meaningless “thoughts and prayers” on the card, it reminded me of one of my favorite short videos. Enjoy!

I just write sorry for your loss.

They aren’t always meaningless....someone might genuinely be sincere and in that case, I wouldn’t say they are meaningless.

I am going through this - it won’t be long before I get said cards. Best thing anyone can say is (in my situation) “if you want to go out for a drink to get a break from the heartache, let me know. I will you at the end of the week.” Or “if I can do anything to make your life easier, from vacuuming, washing up, or cooking; I am ready to do it. I will check in on you and see in what way I can help.” Thoughts and prayers are bollocks, - real friendship and support are shown as deeds.

Some people derive a lot of comfort from these comments, you have to remember that funerals and the associated stuff with them is for the living, not the dead, the whole trick is not to be intolerant in the quest for tolerance and common sense.
