Dance in the wave functions
I love the concept of wave functions... a range of possibilities that only become certain when observed. I was thinking about how so many times I struggle with accepting uncertainty in my life. I want instead to be content and dance in the wave functions.
I have tried to control the details of my life and have not felt at home or at ease in uncertainty. I collapse wave functions like a toddler popping soap bubbles.
So I say to myself, Relax. Let the bubbles float. They are beautiful. Possibilities are not threats. They are opportunities. Who knows what might happen? Sure, bad things might happen. But that's the case no matter what. Let go and dance in the waves. Let them wash over you. Body surf in them.
(yes, I'm mixing metaphors!)
You've dreaded the bad futures, and collapsed wave functions too soon, and then questioned your past and present, and still feared the future. It's easier and better to let the waves dance longer, or even indefinitely, than try to control the future. Relax. Waiting is an investment and it will pay off. If you borrow trouble, you will be in debt. If you invest in waiting, you will reap the interest yourself.
Actually, we can do calculations to determine wave functions for molecules. The chemical reactivity of these molecules is consistent with, and explained by, the calculations. These calculations have become quite sophisticated. They are not nearly as ethereal as you imply.
I think that you are looking more for the philosophy of no free will.
