How many people think investing in gold and silver is a good thing? Do you realize the storage fees and the other fees involved can repeat the amount invested? I stated the post this way because I really want to have a discussion to find if it really works. Personally I have no idea. Want to know, please help.

I’m seeing a lot of talk about hard times ahead. Warren Buffet buying up gold. Russia and China doing the same. Reset coming. Yes, I’m concerned. Gold values would explode, silver too. I uderstand that a couple of sacks of junk silver (pre 1964 silver coins) could be a good start to preparing for paper money losing its value. A small stash of gold would be easy to hide. I’m no expert at all but I’m concerened enough by what I’ve been reading and hearing from people who do know, that I am taking small steps, because if a reset comes they’ll will be lifesaving.

Question. If the economy goes to shit what do you do with the metals. Yes they are valuable, but if I want water, I am going to have something needed to trade. One cannot eat, drink gold, would not one need to be able to have an agent to take the gold to make it useful. I would think if you were going to prepare for the worst one would want water, flour, sugar, salt, stuff like this. Oh and a garden. Thooughts.

I have a number of gold and silver coins. I store them in the basement of my house so there are no storage fees. If you are referring to what I consider the scam of buying gold from a company who then "keeps it safe for you". I would advise against that. They could be selling the same gold to numerous people in the hopes that you will never ask to have it sent to you. They could just be investing your money where ever they please while you have nothing in hand. The gold and silver that I am purchasing I am intending on keeping for 20 years till I retire. Trying to sell when it's value is rising and buy when it's bottoming out seems like too much effort. Gold and silver Bullion will only be worth scrap value. Monetary Coins will have added value of what and how old it they are (and condition). I have a Star Wars Minted coin from a foreign country that is worth 3X the silver value and it's only a few years old. I consider these a smart investment. Silver hoarders and Star Wars collectors will buy them. Not just silver collectors.

@Sticks48 I meant refrigerator, but the other would mean I was richer.

Didn't investors in gold lose a third when it went from +2000 to ~1300 last decade. Invest broadly with good rules. The stock market helps to create new wealth, but its main function is to pump money from the stupid to the smart.
