"The pianist Arthur Rubinstein (b. 1887 [- d. 1982]), who gave his debut at an orchestral concert in Berlin as early as the age of twelve, resolved to never return to Germany after hearing of the invasion of German troops in Belgium. "I play in all the countries of the world," he explained, "except for two: Tibet and Germany. Not in Tibet because it's too high, not in Germany because it's too low." He has kept his oath to this day." (Musician Anecdotes, edited and collected by Elke Herzog and Georg von Turnitz, Wilhelm Heyne Verlag, Muenchen, 1981, 1982. 128 p. P. 90.)
