It's snake oil, but some people actually get a real benefit from snake oil. It's like when religion makes someone happier - annoyingly, it can actually happen.

It is a real mystery why it has been so difficult to prove that homeopathy is no better than placebo, or what the scientific basis is if it actually works (water memory?).

One tenet of homeopathy is that dilution makes it stronger. The crap is diluted to the point that it's unlikely that you'll get any of the supposed "active" ingredient in a dose.

Another tenet is that like counters like. According to that belief, a substance that causes the symptoms of a disease in healthy people would cure similar symptoms in sick people.

There's nothing about homeopathy that has any validity. It's nothing more than pseudoscience.

I know people who swear by it, but personally I'm not a believer. Even if you think in terms of activation of the body's other processes, the dilutions are too extreme to have much effect.

Woo is woo, and there ought to be a law against it. Or at least a warning label.

You know what a placebo is I take it. If you think that you are being cured sometimes you will be. Most of what we go to the doctor for in time will fix itself anyway. I'm not talking about the need for antibiotics when needed. Don't be stupid about this.
