On a bit of a serious note, here is a podcast on cults. I'm sharing this link because even after so many years out from under my grandmother's and her Pentecostal church's unwanted control, being exposed to, forced into these types of religions as a child; well, the negative effect is life-long. Even adults can get suckered into these destructive things.

I still suffer from seven years in a semi cloistered convent. The memories....the dreams....

Now that story needs to be told!

@brentan It would require a book....

In one way or another, to a lesser or bigger degree, sooner or later, all religious organizations, sects, churches, etc., are "cults". It is true that some of them are more poisonous than others, but at the end of the road they will all harm you, emotionally, physically and mentally. Sorry for your experience. But, hey!, at least it wasn't Scientology!

Yeah, at least it wasn't Scientology. I've learned a lot about that cult too though I was never a member, I knew of some people who were and one particular lady always tried to recruit my mother. Thankfully my mom never took the bait and never went to their meetings. From what I've learned about Scientology they seem to be just as strict as the Pentecostals, and even my mom (though still a believer herself) doesn't want to have anything to do with organized religion. She doesn't say as much, but it's been years since she's gone to any church.

@Georgy303 Congratulations, on my behalf, to your mother! Abstention from church-going is a great step. Disneyworld is better, and a lot more fun.

Interesting podcast I enjoyed listening to. I especially liked near the end where they talked about how the mind control techniques used by cults are used by many types of organizations and even individuals within personal relationships. This reminds me of the importance of learning to think critically and learning to question any belief that causes stress. The two podcasts I listen to most are: Joe Rogan Experience and Waking Up with Sam Harris.

I used to listen to Joe Rogan, but life, work, school kind of got in the way of that. I'll have to look him up again.

What is the name of the podcast (not the episode)? Mind Control Ministry is not coming up in my search.

The podcast has a channel on You Tube called "The Thinking Atheist." The gentleman used to be a minister before his deconversion, if I'm not mistaken. I've been subscribed to it for years but have forgotten the details of the guy who runs it. Still, it is a very interesting and thoughtful program, worth checking out.
