Apparently, there's a big display of military air power in the UK today. It's a 'celebration' of the RAF or something.
I don't like it.
These are the kind of events that happen in dictatorships, where people line the streets cheering and waving flags as processions of missiles move slowly along.
It stinks of jingoism and it's only a few weeks since the country 'celebrated' Armed Forces Day. What is going on with Britain?

Feel free to reply to any comment by clicking the "Reply" button.It is the 100th Anniversary of the RAF. I think it is appropriate to commemorate it. It would be naive to think that we could do away with our armed forces, it is the duty of every government to protect its citizens. Without the RAF during WW2 we would have been invaded by Germany, my father was a radio operator in the RAF during the war and I am proud he played his part. Conventional aircraft are necessary, however the money we spend on Trident is obscene.

I hear what you're saying, but it's only a few weeks since Armed Forces Day. I was forced to listen to anachronistic renditions of 'Rule Britania' repeated throughout that day. So it all felt like a pattern was emerging.
There is a difference between honoring the sacrifice of those who fought in the war and jingoism, and I feel uneasy when it veers into the latter territory.
@Ellatynemouth I don’t think yesterday did. Armed Forces Day we could do without. Commemorating and celebrating are not the same thing.
How much did this event cost in an environment which features food banks and welfare cuts?

Priorities speak volumes.
100 year anniversary, believe,aircraft displays,flyovers Military might,the population oooing and aweing,seeing where their tax money goes,I suppose.

It comes shortly after Armed Forces Day and being forced to listen to 'Rule Britania' being sung by a terrible opera singer, multiple times throughout the day.
@Ellatynemouth Probably no worse than the actress Roseanne Barr,butchering our National Anthem some years ago.
