The odd thing about it is that the gospels aren't complicated. It's not like we can say that we misunderstood the man because he was an intellectual. And yet there has always been a huge proportion of Christians who can't tell the difference between your typical pharisee and Christ himself. I boil it all down to this: the pharisees keep on about religious laws and Christ kept harping on about mercy. Example: Don't leave the donkey in the ditch on the sabbath even if work is forbidden. Do the decent thing! Free the poor animal.
