I use "libertarian" as a curse word

Jess2zz Level 4 July 12, 2018

I saw no mention of libertarianism in the article, just a lot of condescending hateful slurs. Did I miss something?

WilliamFleming Level 6 July 12, 2018

Libertarians have the emotional development of a 14 yr old. They only understand one concept: "get out of my room!"

NerdyOkieDude Level 7 July 12, 2018

All libertarians are emotionally undeveloped? What an argument! This idiot isn’t winning any prizes any time soon.

@TiberiusGracchus : I’m not in your room. So calm down.

See: [newyorker.com]

"That’s why libertarianism so often appeals to adolescents, and why there’s something perpetually adolescent about the doctrine: it arises from a self-centeredness—an affirmation of a strength seemingly ever-renewed in the face of external opposition—that young people feel daily."

See also:

Regarding adolescents who understand the concept of democracy:

"Those who are able to define democracy, moreover, typically do so in terms of such characteristics as individual rights and freedoms, democratic representation, majority rule, and/or civic equality (citations omitted)."

Unlike the average libertarian, adolescents who can articulate more sophisticated conceptions of democracy begin to move beyond the "mine, mine, mine" attitude of their emotionally arrested counterparts:

"Comprehension of democracy seems to be related to the ability to understand what a democratic way of dealing with a situation entails. An older study among adolescents in the USA has shown that those who were able to provide a more comprehensive account of democracy also provided more often a democratic solution for a problem as opposed to a more self-centred approach (citations omitted)."

So this idiot's conclusion that libertarians have the emotional development of 14 yr olds is the product of reading about the psychology of same, which came after having read the philosophy (e.g. Robert Nozick) and hack-philosophy/terrible literature (e.g. Ayn Rand) so dear to their hearts (confession I couldn't stomach Rand after reading Atlas Shrugged) of the perpetually self-absorbed. Therefore my dislike of libertarian philosophy and libertarians comes after the study, and doesn't precede same.

But no I don't expect prizes. I am not obsessed with peer approval...the way adolescents are.

They don't believe in controls so they deny the need for them.
