I have recently had the misfortune of having to deal with a colleague is one of the most reprehensible individuals I have ever met. One of those short white middle aged men who are a walking ball of spit and bile.

His hatreds include:

. Indians and also Indian food;

. Chinese people and also Chinese food;

. Canadians;

. Fat women.

I have tested him on his definition of "fat" - essentially any woman who isn't of model proportions. That's why he prefers Asian women (not Chinese or Indian, obviously) because they are slight.

I find his almost pathological drive to find objects of hate bordering on frightening. Also racist, bigoted and misogynistic.

Intellectually I know there are rednecks like this and avoid them; but to actually have to contact with such an individual I find disturbing and distasteful.

Anyone else had a similar experience?

Does he like Canadian or Fat women's food ?

Ha ha! He is such a redneck it's not out of the question he would dislike both.

OOOHHHH, yes. I worked with a few hateful, bigoted. One even let me know that she kept her handgun in the car. Eventually I had to bring the human resource department into the picture.

Scary. This is a contract deal, so thankfully not long term. He self identifies - in the Australian lexicon - as a "knockabout" and a "larrikin". Which often translates into a licence to be a dickhead. I suspect the parallel in the US lexicon is "good old boy" - which means he can say any old offensive shit but that's okay because that's who he is and if you don't love it then leave it. Ugh. These people.

@Palindromeman Yes, good ole boys here, but the one I was dealing with was an obnoxious woman. Unfortunately here in the states they now feel empowered.

I've encountered enough. I believe people like that are often very unhappy and filled with self-hate.

I guess so, and they are more than happy to pass it on.

Dude, I live in the SOUTH. That, and worse, is SOP over here.

Christ in a sidecar, I don't think I could live with that.

@Palindromeman I got good at ignoring them years ago. Or avoiding their company entirely. It’s my gift to me!

@CarolinaGirl60 Good one. By circumstance, this was unavoidable for me. But, in it's own way, educational. When I see that kind of casual, unthinking hostility in person, it helps ground my understanding of that mindset. Which, in turn, better positions me to push back against it. Believe me, I have challenged him on all of those views and he is implacable about all of them.

As I said from the top, a short middle aged white man angry at the world.

On the upside, that means there is more rogan josh, sweet and sour pork, maple syrup and curvy girls for me πŸ™‚
