A Catholic to an agnostic to a Catholic to an atheist to a Christian to an atheist.

I was born to a Catholic father and a Christian mother. I had been baptized in the Catholic faith at the age of 2 months old.

When I became thirteen, I started questioning my beliefs. I had a religious crisis within me. I wanted to believe in eternal life, but it is as worse as eternal death. It went to the point that I had to choose reincarnation as a better choice.

Then, my Catholic faith strengthened when I met this fellow who has halos all around her. She influenced me back into the Catholic faith. I'd pray hours at night and recite the rosary whenever possible. I'd kneel at prie-dieus and look at the statue of Christ constantly. It was a time when I was the most goody-two-shoes that I had been.

Years later, she left and said her goodbyes. I met knew people who are quite the opposite of her. As a strong Catholic, I'd try and preach my beliefs to agnostic atheists. I found their beliefs fascinating. It is logical and believable at the same time. As a person that loves the art of debate, I find their ways jaw-dropping.

With that, I reconsidered my beliefs. I used to be an agnostic. Why not rekindle that old flame? The more I got into science, the more I find answers to questions I never had.

At the age of 18, my mother started noticing my ungodly ways. She forced me to attend Christian Services. Fair enough. I tried my best to dive into the system, but my love for debate only rekindles with each preaching of the pastors. I was only a Christian at paper, not by heart. I attended the services for my mother's sake, and not for me. By then, I was still not a true atheist. I still try to reason out that a god might exist.

Unfortunately, I still haven't found the reason. That is why I had no choice but to believe in the obvious rather than an uncertain.

The path atheism from being a believer is sometimes not an easy one walk.

I can understand how it must have been difficult for you, as you appear be surrounded by strongly religious people.

When I became an atheist I looked back and wondered how I could have ever believed. I found better answers in science and philosophy (providing the philosophy doesn't start by assuming a god). Studying physics shook my view of reality.

I expect your love of science and truth-seeking will lead you ever-better understanding of the universe. It should also make you a better doctor (I see you are a med student) as you will be less susceptible to psuedo-science.

My best wishes for your journey through life. It will be so much richer without the burden of religion.
