Finished reading the book A New Reality: Human Evolution for a Sustainable Future by Dr Jonathan Salk and his late father Dr Jonas Salk. This book is a revised edition of the 1981 book written by the same authors. It made a lot of sense to me showing how world population remained pretty much the same for thousands of years until reaching 1 billion in the 19th century and shooting up to over 7 billion now. The rise in population is starting to decrease now though and expected to level off by the beginning of the next century. They argue that humanity's dominant values are changing for the better due to our awareness of what helps and what hurts our survival. No definite predictions are made about the future, but I was left hopeful to see how it all works out in my lifetime and playing my part in creating a more sustainable future.

It's good to hear something positive, or at least hopeful. I believe Steven Pinker's new book is quite positive too about how things are going these days.

Yes, read Enlightenment Now earlier this year. Enjoyed and recommend it.
