Hearing and seeing something can be mistaken and mislead into other things. I personally follow my gut for many things which has helped me through many tough times.

I trust what I can establish as factual. Not everything I feel or hear or intuit is correct or doesn't hide an underlying truth.

Cognitive shortcuts serve a purpose, particularly for less consequential matters, but we had best be actually right about important things.
