We are all hypocrites for allowing this. It is very upsetting, there is nothing worse than seeing innocent children suffer. I'm not interested in the stark contrast, that can be achieved by showing any photo of anyone eating a meal or a well stocked supermarket for that matter. The Catholic church and the Evangelical church appear to be in love with money, I don't expect them to give every penny of it to prop up famine strickin third world countries...but they could start by not collecting vast amounts of cash for their respective churches or buying jet planes. Damn them all.

""I'm not interested in the stark contrast, that can be achieved by showing any photo of anyone eating a meal or a well stocked supermarket for that matter"..."""

Well, I am...because stupid gestures as Pope Francis changing his golden throne for a wooden one do nothing to feed the hungry....The churches...all..should contribute to eradicate what we see on this pic. The point is they don't want to solve the problem....which would be achieved by FEEDING and educating the people.

@DUCHESSA

That Photo in my bio of me wearing the sunglasses in the blistering heat is me in Northern Sudan...have you seen this poverty close up?

@Hitchens No in Northen Sudan but indeed in Thailand and Central America.

@DUCHESSA "Everybody" needs to ask themselves what have they done themselves to feed and educate these people IMO.

@Hitchens If many government do not allow you to educate people in general ...what makes you think they will allow you to feed / educate people they don't want around?

@DUCHESSA

But they do allow you.

@Hitchens Indeed...but not as much as they should...or you think the problems presented by Cervantes in The Quixote -to give you only one example- can be explained / debated in three weeks?

@DUCHESSA

I am not familiar with the works of Cervantes..not in detail anyway.

I prefer Ernest Hemmingway's outlook..

"The world is a fine place and worth fighting for."

@Hitchens I could have mentioned Shakespeare, Joyce, Rulfo, Ibarbouru, Berceo, Sor Juana or Rushdie....the point I am making is "they don't allow you the necessary time to educate / school the kids.....here, there or anywhere.

@DUCHESSA

Sometimes it's too late for education..its like rearranging the furniture on the Titanic..these infants are dying of malnutrition..cholera ..dysentry..dehydration..neglect..

@Hitchens Indeed....but if we don't school the others the problem will never end. There are kids who don't even know there are buildings in Africa....or in Mexico City.
