Having a discussion on another social site about the bible. The guy claims science has proven it right many times.
Any thoughts on how to respond? I have mentioned the movie Zeitgeist (sp) as more plausible explanation but he and his cohorts believe it debunked, as though the bible hasnt.
As a former protestant and saved Christian for many years, indoctrinated from birth you might say, reading holy books and questioning the premises of their churches, I just couldn't believe the stories anymore. SO HERE I am, reforming and unlearning deeply engrained tenets. It actually gets easier as I accept change based on evidence, not stories. God or not, find who you are. I have and it is a real adventure. I can't blame anyone else for my mistakes and I can't the rationale of needing an invisible "being" to control me. Freedom of thought, freedom to rely on my mind, not someone's doctrines (dogma).
I love how xtians take an archeological find, match it to the bible & claim that as proof of biblical validation, hallelujah, god did it.
Story of Sodom and Gomorrah is prime example. Find of 2 cities in close proximity that were destroyed by fallout from a volcano (fire & brimstone). Bronze age desert sheep herders/nomaidic people try to find an explanation for a natural event that appears to them supernatural.
The worst thing you could do at this time & place was to deny or violate rules of hospitality. That was the only reason the gods would flatten a village. Then put King James' twist on it, a time when sodomy was an unforgivable sin for a man.....taaa-daaaa.
