Stop Smoking ****

In 2003 I was smoking over two packs a day. Someone recommended a book that was supposed to make it easy to quit. They raved about it enough to make me curious. I wasn't particularly desperate to quit at the time but I thought why not give it a try. The book was "The Easy Way To Stop Smoking" by Allen Carr. As I read the book it seemed to engage me in a way like hypnosis. The whole point of the book was about changing ones identity.

The Navy tried to make new recruits become non smokers by forcing them to stop smoking while in boot camp. After eight weeks of no smoking the thought was that they would easily quit completely. It didn't work. The identity issue was never addressed. For the eight weeks they didn't become 'non smokers', they became 'smokers who were prevented from smoking'. After boot camp nearly all of them returned to smoking.

In his book Allen Carr realigns your identity into 'I am a non-smoker' so completely that when my day came to stop I quit cold turkey with no cravings or discomfort of any kind and never smoked again. Never looked back wishing I could light up. My identity had become 'I am a non smoker' and it worked. It really was easy.

I've recommended this book to a few others and it worked well for all of them except one that I know of. I'm highly recemmending this to anyone who wants to change who they think they are from smoker to non-smoker.
