Forget about organized religion; do you believe that there is a soul that survives death?

No.

Why would one be necessary? We can explain reality better without it.

No, as that would that would require mind-body dualism to be true. A disembodied mind makes no sense to me. What would that even mean?

No.

If there is a soul why do brain injuries damage our thinking capacity? Our mind is chemical reactions in the brain and the soul is a myth like god and devils and angels. I don't know about you but I figure when I die I'm dead.

Try telling that to the religous idiots.

I do. However I am “open” to the idea that this is a hold over from my religious indoctrination. I like to think of it similar to the butterfly. Does the caterpillar know that when it goes in to a chrysalis state that it will still be “alive” after, but as a butterfly? Maybe our bodies dying is similar to a chrysalis, for our souls. I guess I won’t know until I die.

Why do you believe that it exists? What evidence led you to this conclusion?
