Anyone have mystical experiences while not believing god? I have had quite a few throughout my life. I understand that it is likely a state the brain enters. For those that have, what was your experience like?

My mother died of mastasized cancer in 1983. She was skin and bones when she passed. We knew for 15 months she would die, so there was plenty of time to prepare. Yet on her death, I went into a deep depression. For about two years I mourned. Then one night I had a dream. I came up one hill to meet her. Don't know how I knew, but it was the point of me walking up this hill. She came up the other and we greeted each other like we did after not seeing each other for so long. As we hugged, I thought to myself, crystal clear after all these years, gee, she's full and strong like before she got sick. I was shocked in my dream that i would think that. That made me happy in the dream. That was it. However, I had never had a dream which was so vivid and detailed. I had never had a dream where the only thing in it was a small rise and two people, no sky, land, trees, buildings, nothing. I also had never previously, or since, attributed something in the dream to real life. Dreams had always been from the perspective of a scenario, like a cartoon or tv show. Something was being done or talked about. In this one, we just hugged and I had that thought and then the realization. After that, the mourning ceased. It took about a month before I realized instead of feeling sad or crying, I would remember something good about her or us. I thought about how different this dream was from others and realized that the dream was her, letting me know she was no longer sick, scared, or sickly. I don't believe in a god, but I think our energy continues in another dimension. That's what I got out of it and I follow that belief now. Our personality, our intellect, our weaknesses are tied to this body and the energy moves on. Is that mystical enough for ya?

WoW what a wonderful dream, It's unbelievable when we lose a loved one, it's so hard to come to terms with knowing you will never see or speak to them again. I lost my Dad and I have heard his voice clear as a bell and felt he was near and I so want to believe it really was him but I know it was simply my brain trying to make sense of it all. I loved the silly old sod.

Yes I am an asthmatic and I had a very severe attack and as the oxygen drained from my brain I can only describe myself pinking off the walls with lights flashing in my head, I became unconscious and was brought back by a Paramedic who gave oxygen he dragged me back from a beautiful field full of light It felt great and was upset to be returned to the living . I know this was not a religious experience but my beautiful brain trying to make sense of the situation, and I believe all these folk who say they have died and saw God are simply relaying what their brain was computing at the time of near death.

There is so much we don't know about spirits. They may be closer to us than aliens and we still talking about when the aliens come.

I don't know if I would classify this as mystical. My daughter used to live next door to me with her boyfriend. I had a dream that she was crying because she had an earache which she has been plagued with all her life. Got up to a knock at the door. My daughter was crying because she had a bad earache. Blew my mind.
