Music lyrics and our personal evolution--is there a connection?
Generationally-speaking, and as the technology of music became more advanced and distributed, music lyrics became a meaningful part of life in the 20th century. By the final 4 decades of the 20th century, music lyrics were arguably the most influential and popular form of poetry, replacing the print form of poetry (which had replaced the oral traditions of poetry).
I think back now on periods of my life, and I find that some songs look to have resonated with me, my personality, and my work, informing my ethic, goals, and understanding of social and individual life experience.
So, who has song lyrics that they connect with their own growth and human unfolding?
Here's one that always makes me wistful yet restive...
In a matter of a moment, lost till the end of time
It's the evening of another day, and the end of mine.
Now the starlight, which has found me,
Lost for a million years,
Tries to linger as it fills my eyes
Till it disappears--
Could it be that somebody else is
Looking into my mind?
Some other place,
Somewhere,
Some other time...

So, what song lyrics connect with your own growth and human unfolding?
There are way too many to list, but I think it's true that lyrics reflect the times and what people are going through and experiencing at the moment. Of course, that's a very general thing, since there are so many generic love songs etc. But yeah, anyone who pays close attention to music can identify.
