This is another way of saying the world is filled with existental threats and you have to by hyper-vigilant about them. Problem is, we tend to be overwrought about such things. For example, many people find being disagreed with to be an existential threat. Or to be held up in traffic. When we really look at the things that bother us, most of them are distinctly first-world "problems" (if you want to dignify them with that label).

My guess is that you are actually quite safe on a moment to moment basis, but your ego perhaps doesn't feel safe, because of anxieties, insecurities, or any number of other things. But you really should re-evaluate what makes you think there "all kinds" of "mostrous" intolerable threats populate your world -- inner or actual.

Case in point is my stepson. He has a harsh inner critic that constantly tells him he's a loser, a fraud, stupid, slow ... none of which is remotely true. But he often lives as if it were. I'm sure he in a sense thinks horrible monsters live in his id too ... truth is he's a fine young man who pathologically lies to himself to manage his performance anxiety ... cuts right to the chase so that he can self-sabotage before there's a chance of failure.

Don't misunderstand ... my world is full of feckless, unreliable, intellectually dishonest posers, like everyone else's. There ARE some challenges to manage. But horrible monsters? That's giving them way too much credit.

There are monsters in the dark.People are certifiably the worst thing to happen to humanity and the world. When I was little, the things that might have been in the dark scared me ... now I just wish they were real, and we were good. Like in fairy tales. No, we are the monsters.
