How can a rational person who supports science, education and equal rights for everyone no matter race, gender, religion, etc., also support Trump?

It peculiar. As a phenomena Trump represents all that is abhorrent and uncivilised about modern political developments. But I know some acquaintances who fit that mould of rational, considered, humanistic, socially concerned, etc. but supported Trump as an expression of upsetting the status quo at any cost. I don’t think many want to see long term success for him but instead just break the system enough to reset power relations. Still...others just think he’ll break the state and allow market forces to rule.

I'd like to say the person could not possibly be rational. I have read that people with a high iq are able to rationalize almost anything. Dr mengele, the dr death of auschwitz had a high iq.
