I think the death penalty should be reserved only for the most heinous acts ..not for the criminally insane or perpetrators who have very low I.Q's..just the really evil ones that cannot be reformed. But I would overall favour a world without any Capital Punishment..to avoid errors of judgement ...

That's my bottom line. One miscarriage outweighs any potential positive of the death penalty!

Agreed...its bad enough to know that right now statistically we know that there are people languishing in prison for crimes they did not commit..I wonder how many have been executed?.....beyond reasonable doubt should also be applied to the sentence..as much as the presumption of guilt.

@Hitchens For a death penalty, which can't be revoked if carried out, we need even stricter standards than "beyond a reasonable doubt". Since that may never be met, life with no potential parole should be as bad as it gets. The State should not be executioners, just too flawed, biased & unfair a system!

@phxbillcee

Human judgement will always be the weak link in the chain...thats one reason crime happens...and sentences are weighted against colour..wealth and the accused cognitive ability....yes better to abolish it completely..besides There is no positive correlation between crime incidences and deterrent.
