"We can either be governed by fear, fear of immigrants, fear of Muslims, call the press the enemy of the people, tear kids away from their parents at the U.S.-Mexico border, or we can be governed by our ambitions and our aspirations and our desire to make the most out of all of us. And that's America at its best."
-Beto O'Rourke running for Texas Senate vs Ted Cruz. Recent polls show statistical tie. Don't forget to vote!

Here in Missouri, we too have a close race for US Senate between Sen Claire McCaskill and her GOP opponent AG Josh Hawley. And here too we are in a statistical tie. Vote Blue!

That is a good example of a non sequitor. It's bullshit, but it sounds great.

There's nothing "non sequitor" about it. I'm wondering if you know what "non- sequitor" means

non sequitor:
a conclusion or statement that does not logically follow from the previous argument or statement.

The second statement follows perfectly from the first - i.e. America is at its best when we follow our desire to make the most out of everyone. Inclusion makes America great, not excluding others because of fears not based on facts.

It's a non-sequitor because there never was the great America that's being bullshitted. It's a myth, just like the dream.

@brentan The word "great" doesn't appear. It makes no mention of a "great America" or an an "American dream". You are reading things that aren't there. It's about being better than it is now. Being hopeful is not the same thing as flag waving.

Oh, it's there whether you can see it or not.

@brentan really? Damn - guess I need new glasses. Wow, thanks! Had no idea my eyes were so bad! Maybe you should ride with me when I drive so I don't read the signs wrong.

@brentan you obviously have a healthy sense of the absurd

Better perception, that's for sure
