And now they are allies and valued trading partners:
Yes, so what?
We are trading partners and allies with many countries who we committed atrocities against and others who treated us equally badly.
The past is the past, what was done by our ancestors has no baring on how we behave now. There are enough current atrocities going on in the world, evil regimes killing thousands everyday in the name of various myths and political ideologies without holding on to old dead grudges.
Perhaps if you had met a victim you would have pause.
@FrayedBear Perhaps a Boers would say that about us British, I didn't invent concentration camps, but our ancestors did.
You're an Australian, know any Aboriginies who hold a grudge against you for this lot, would it be fair if they did?

@LenHazell53 Many do hold it against the whites and I don't blame them particularly as it is still going on.

Then of course there is the great north/south divide in the U.K. which is also still occurring. ? I'm from Blackpool btw. but been here longer than most Australians.
My ex had an uncle who escaped several times from Changi and so ended up being sent to work the Nagasaki coal mine. He was still there when the bomb went off. He ended up blind as a result of the malnutrition at the hands of the Japanese. A nice bloke but you could not mention anything Japanese in his presence.
