Unfortunately, that is the mindset of some of the seemingly religious folks I've come across. Seems to be the reason we had "confession" on Saturdays when I was a Catholic girl. It was expected that we all had horrible things to confess. In fact it seemed almost a sin if you didn't go to confession to confess something. (I would make stuff up, so I would at least have something to say in the confessional.)
