I love to study Religious history. As a historian one must study it. I would prefer to have studied "Human" history.
I can't say that I fully agree with this. I think an enormous number of downsides to religion are avoidable and we'd be better without those, and the strands of religion that foster those downsides. But I'm far from convinced that unleashing the full force of the non-insane people who are particularly susceptible to believe crazy things on true reality would be a good thing. This is among a lot of other things that religion does under the hood that are at least neutral for humanity if not beneficial.
