Does anyone ever see a homeless person down on their luck and give them some money, only to have them throw a "god bless you sir" at you? I swear to gawd, I want to snatch the fiver right back out of their hands.
I just grin/grimace and wish them a good day. But on the inside *&#@$$!

If I'm giving something to someone, I give it without expectation of how they're going to respond. If a homeless person is saying "god bless you" to me, it's coming from a part of them that has nothing to do with me, only the way they are expressing gratitude for the help. There's no room for right or wrong here, only compassion.

Wouldn't be worth grabbing the fiver back. Their gawd has already told the individual what He thinks of him and gifted them their lot in life. Harsh enough already.

You're right, I just hate seeing gawd get the credit. The Atheists I personally know, all have higher moral standards & conduct then their delusional counterparts. It annoys me that the universal default assumption is that us heathens are morally rudder-less. Lol, I usually keep this bottled up tight. This has been a week of rants. Sorry & Thanx.

I offered a well-nourished looking young woman who approached me on the street for "help" a meal & beverage at a nearby deli...only to be told, "fuck you, bitch".
Perhaps I should have offered Thoughts & Prayers?

I give out food only. I don't give out money. Most just say "thanks" or "bless you". If someone did invoke a deity, I would probably ask them why their deity allowed them to be homeless and where all the "good Christians" were and why weren't they helping. But, then, I tend to be a smart ass without much of a filter when it comes to dealing with brainwashed ideas.

No, never gave them any money. One time when I lived in Ontario, California, I was just toolin' around enjoying the weather, and blasting In Flames. I went to get some fuel, but when I left, I saw a homeless guy with a cardboard sign that said "burger please". I had more than enough money in my account. I doubled back, and got 2 burgers, some soda, and some fries. Went back to the guy and said "here you go". He never said thanks. He said "ALRIGHT", with a big smile. Started chowing down immediately, gave the other burger to his dog. I will never forget the expression on his face. His long unkempt beard, pale blue eyes that lit up, and the smile on his face.

We had a homeless guy who would summer in Gettysburg as the churches take turns housing the homeless. Last year he stayed the winter and found shelter here and there. Some people even got him a room for Christmas through new Years at one of the better hotels, right on the town's square. He has always talked about Jesus and how Jesus guides him through life. And I mean how Jesus literally speaks to him and tells him where to go and to whom to speak. We had gotten used to him around town; it is a small burg, mostly conservative but with the college here, a sliver of hope. The Dems even have an office right downtown which has never been attacked. Anyway, Ed, the homeless guy didn't return this summer, and like a missing migrating animal one feels a loss, even though his mental illness had him believing Jesus spoke to him personally. Last summer I accidentally upset Ed. I was talking with him, and had gotten too comfortable. I said, because I thought so and even looked it up, that something he had said about the movie Wizard of Oz was incorrect. I found it on my phone and said you were right Ed, my bad. I looked up and he had his head in his hands rocking back and forth and shaking and saying softly go away go away, over and over. So, I learned never, even in a friendly manner, argue wit someone who not only believes in God, but talks directly to the son.

All the time but by then I'm already walking away. I can't get mad at everything. I'm just glad the guy gets to eat today.

They probably don't believe, but are pretty sure you do, and they want repeat donations from you. I help out anyone who is homeless... They have bigger problems than philosophical or religious disagreements, don't you think?

Well said

Empathy is so hot. Thanks @Cutiebeauty.

What makes you so angry? It is just a religious person wanting to say thank you and using the vocabulary he has been taught all his live.

I know why. I feel like they perceive that I'm being a good little Christian. Somehow it makes me feel like I'm supporting Christianity instead of just showing some compassion. I let it go but I can't say it doesn't bother me.

I can understand that but in the end it doesn't really matter what that person believes. You helped someone and that is the important part in my view.
