It's censorship, not "censure ship".

Clinton is arguably a sociopath (as, arguably, in a sense everyone is who gets so far as to be a candidate for national office) and she's egotistically graceless in defeat in many ways, but ... that doesn't make her 100% responsible for her defeat either. There were clearly Russians, fake news and trolls in the mix. There is also the simple fact that Clinton was a weak candidate at a time when people are at a low ebb of trust and patience for substantive things being done to address the hopelessness of the impoverished and the existential threat to the middle class, thanks to the plutocracy.

So through some mental alchemy people decided to elect one plutocrat over another, one the sole basis that Trump was seen as more of a change agent and less an agent of status quo. Unfortunately virtually all the change has been negative, but so what -- it's change, and I guess change of any kind is what counts, right? No plan required. No truth in advertising required. Just random change.

None of this means Alex Jones gets to spew hate and misinformation with impunity, or that all censorship is bad.

The Internet was never "free". Not as in free beer, and not as in freedom, not free as in equal. That was a utopian fantasy. Like any shared societal resource it was and is subject to constant renegotiation of what will be [dis]allowed. It was more to the liking of tech geeks when it was more exclusively their environment. Now that it supports society at large it is, for better or worse, bending to the will of society at large.

All that said, I agree with the observations in your last paragraph, and I agree that censorship should be minimalist. The objective of good censorship is to not become a platform for various forms of actual bullying and incivility, not to control opinion or expression as such.

I heard an interview on BBC news with Mrs. Clinton and she absolutely blamed herself. She said she had misread the mood of the country and had not taken her opposition seriously enough.

Umm, she "lost" with over 3 million votes More than cheeto, pointing out that the system is Broken, and not much else.
