Well, I did a dumb thing. Two weeks ago I decided that the vines on the pergola needed to be trimmed before I got a letter from the HOA. So I got out my trusty 6 ft step ladder and proceeded to trim away. I leaned a little to far out to get that last stray vine and the ladder and I both went down. After falling I laid there for a few minutes because everything hurt. I realized that this would not have happened if Richard was still here. He always worried about me working out in the yard and would often check on me, hold the ladder when I needed to trim etc. I'm learning the hard way that I can't do stuff like this on my own again. Went and had an MRI done of my shoulder, which hurts a lot, and it seems I've done some damage to my rotator cuff and have an appt. to see the Ortho doc on November 2nd. In the meantime I have Tylenol 3 for the pain. I am trying to take care of everything with the house, but am realizing that it's a lot of work for one person. I am thinking that next year when school is out for the summer I may put the house on the market. I'm beginning to think I need a smaller footprint in life, and a smaller place would be easier for me to handle. Anyone else finding that life is a little harder without your partner?
Can't say for partners or lack thereof, but HOAs are a blight upon civilisation.
hmmm....I always have done all the maintenance on every home I've ever had and I'm an avid gardener.
I can't imagine what it would be like to have a spouse who did those things.
I've never had help maintaining a home or the attached property.
Currently I have a BnB an other rentals. I am in the process of tearing up the bedroom floor in one of my rentals because the home is sagging in the middle. It would appear that some idiot in the past cut through a joist for a shower drain during a previous renovation. Now, years later, I'm stuck fixing their shortcut. Bastards. I can guarantee it was a man who just thought "I'll cut this joist to get this done quickly...no issue because there are plenty of floor joists.". If a woman had done it, they would have done it the right way and reconfigured the bathroom. The bathroom is the dumbest layout ever with a whole corner of wasted space. Arrrgh. NEVER let a man design a bathroom. They have no clue.
That said....if your house is too much for you, then yes, sell it. I'd say sell it now if you can before the market stalls due to the Fed raising interest rates.
Thanks for your advice, and you're correct, men don't know nothing about designing a bathroom!
Well that was kind of the opposite for me. I've always been the handy person and have maintained the home and all the repairs. My ex moved right in with his girlfriend not really wanting anything to do with being a homeowner anymore. Then they split for a while because he said it was "strained." I'm guessing she asked him to mow the lawn. ?
I'm guessing you're correct suki.
@Redheadedgammy by the way I hope you're okay!
I could have written this word for word. What is it with people who can't be bothered with their own home?
Please take care of yourself!
Yes... I live on 12 acres out in the woods. Cell phones don't work to well so I need to take it easy depending on what I am doing so I don't die and rot... Or become bear food. My sister worries about me and lives over an hour away. So... I slow down and take it easy as I know there isn't anyone around.
Please do take it easy RiverRick.
I'm sorry about your shoulder.
Shoulder injuries are NO JOKE. Do EVERYTHING they tell you to do.
I wrecked mine last summer and was terrified. It was messed up for almost 6 weeks. Took a month off my bike which was awful. Nothing torn though and even THEN I needed norco.
I'm sorry about your loss. I too, am without mine and feel like a ship without a rudder.
Hey, back at ya. I am so thankful I found this group. I know all of you understand exactly what I'm going through. So sorry you are alone now as well. Thanks for the advice too.
@Redheadedgammy Thanks. It's a stupid weird place to put ice.
I had to do stretches and not lift anything on one side for a couple of weeks, and that was without a tear. (i tripped in the dark & fell flat on my face-thought I would die!)
I hope they can fix it for you.
And yes, sorry also we're in the same shitty club. ?
Sry for all your pain. Hope you feel better hugs
