I’ve decided that this is a better argument than Atheism or Humanitarianism as a way to fight Evangelicalism. Religion might be in decline but it’s still what determines politics and society. It’s vitally important to discredit this rot and one must fight fire with fire.
I’ve written many times that Jesus is the figure a Christian should be worshipping, not the OT God (who is the authority for Jews), and they can not be merged. Jesus preached none of the cruelty, death, and fear prevalent in the OT. It’s in that difference that our hope lies.
Here’s my argument: The Jewish prophecies a Savior who would deliver them from oppression. They escaped the Egyptians and Romans so the only oppression left was that of God’s laws. As proof of that I can site that Jews no longer keep most of those laws. Why? Because Jesus caused them to be scattered globally and that broke the ability to obey such exacting demands. In essence, Jesus saved them from the oppression of God. In doing so Jesus also consigned the OT to a history lesson rather than a moral one.
That change was vital because God’s laws were necessary only for a specific time. Because they were brutal, something to fear, continuing them past an expiration date was to allow darkness, or Hell, to infiltrate God’s greater plan. Jesus was necessary to free humanity from Hell.
He does this by placing love on humanity. Suggesting people have a poverty of greed. Healing ailments. Respect for authority but resistance of despotism. Meekness of spirit but certainty of character.
Satan has won our time so it’s necessary to be strong in argument against The Darkness. Point out to Evangelicals the OT God’s cruelty and hatred for life. ALL LIFE. Hatred is actually the root of all evil.
