Here's a current story about Seventh Day Adventist parents letting their child die. Although this religion is related to the Jehovah's Witnesses, I didn't think they had any beliefs that could get a 14-month old baby killed:

There is no official position of Seventh Day Adventism against vaccinations, in fact, several years ago they officially came out in favor of them (https://news.adventist.org/en/all-news/news/go/2015-03-16/adventist-church-adopts-stance-on-vaccines/ ). But like any religious ideation, it can serve as rationalization for crazy, stupid people to force reality to be as they wish it to be.

It's a bit of a reach to connect SDA with JW. They both have a common origin in the 1800s prophecies of Miller, but so far as I know evolved completely independently from that branching point. SDAs are doctrinally actually quite similar to Christian fundamentlism apart from their shifting the holy day from Sunday to Saturday. The other differences are largely derivative and cultural (such as the emphasis on healthy diet, pacifism and a mild survivalist streak). SDAs are Trinitarian, unlike JWs, and don't have the weird prohibition on taking blood transfusions.

"They have a common origin but it's a bit of a reach to connect them". I guess you're the argumentative type.

@brentan Indeed? That would be news to anyone who knows me.

Maybe I read too much into your calling them "related" which to me implies similar, minor variants of each other. Otherwise there's no more point in mentioning that than in mentioning that Christianity, Islam and Judaism are "related" or that western and eastern culture are "related". Sure they are ... ultimately everything is in some way. My point is that SDA and JW have evolved completely independently of each other and today are more different than similar theologically. Fundamentalists widely regard JWs as heretical, and SDA's as more misguided shirt-tail relations.

My point is NOT that you are an idiot or something. It's just a conversation involving some minor disagreement based on my experience within fundamentalism -- it's not an existential threat that I pointed out a different take on it.

@mordant Oh what a bore. They are and they aren't. You're not the argumentative type. Not bothered with justification either, I guess.

Within religions there’s so many different sects, who can keep up. Technically none (but one obscure religion)of them are against vaccinations but it’s used as an excuse by bat shit crazy people all the time.
