The Issue of Rape

Warning: The following headlines culled from actual stories posted on the "Right Wing Watch" website might be disturbing to some women.

Rape doesn’t seem to be a major, even a minor, issue of concern to the so-called ‘Christian’ right-wingers. Maybe that’s because rape wasn’t that big an issue in the Bible. If it was, then you’d think that God would have issued a Commandant along the line of “Thou shall not rape”.

Further, exceptions due to rape is no excuse when it comes down to their anti-choice, anti-abortion worldview.

Todd Akin and the Issue of “Legitimate Rape”

Background: on August 19, 2012, while discussing abortion, Todd Akin claimed that victims of what he described as "legitimate rape" very rarely become pregnant. According to Akin, “If it's a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.” Needless to say, that caused an uproar. Needless to say, the loony tunes right-wingers supported Akin. Akin himself, although later apologizing, claimed to be – as loony tunes often do – persecuted for his remarks.
