Just had to share...my boss (principal lecturer/female) walked into my office with a strange little man and introduced him. Some guy, I was friendly as I always am, "Hello pleased to meet you (warm handshake), I'm Jayne". That was that. A little bit later she (boss) came bustling back into my office, "oh Jayne, that was such and such, he's really senior and he was really taken with you, you should be nice to him"!!! Wtf! So the double registrations in nursing, the two BScs, the MSc, the teaching qualification, the post grad certs in management and counselling mean nothing??? I have to be nice to a senior person because...what, it was literally a 30 seconds meeting! This is why we get fed up (women) because despite all our hard work, despite the constant endeavour to contribute on a level playing field (no one is asking for a foot in the door), despite all that, a small grubby looking but senior man thinks he can snap his credentials and I'll come running?? The worst thing is, when my boss told me this, I just replied, "oh thanks" !....grrrr

You're not describing anything guys don't deal with. Getting a foot in the door, so to speak, is about 10% what you know & 90% who you know. That's why an idiot with the gift of gab will always move up while the quiet, educated people who are hoping to get noticed get passed by. If you made a good impression with rando exec, use it to your advantage. Find excuses to have to communicate with him from time to time (in a professional capacity). Could be as simple as CC'ing him on important emails that can affect the company. Get introductions to other execs & impress them too. You just got your foot in the door. It's up to you to do something about it. & Be sure to thank your boss for the introduction. She just did you a solid.

Why should I? I want my credentials to stand on their own. I presume he was 'taken with me' because of how I look. He had nothing else to judge me on. I have no intention of ever speaking to him again. I am so far down the ladder it is unlikely we'll ever meet. I am a professional nurse educator.
@Amisja - Your boss may have been talking to him about you & decided to introduce you. Not likely you would have been privy to that conversation. The reality of life is if you wait for your credentials to speak for you, be prepared for disappointment. I was the head of all manufacturing at my last company & reported directly to the CEO. At my current company, they actually created a new division for me. I have a lot of experience in my field, but I don't have a degree. It was all about forming strategic relationships & passing by other people with more seniority & education than me. I'm not telling you how to live your life, or anything. Just offering some friendly advice. In the end, it's all up to you.
