My mother was an athlete and registered nurse who raised four kids on healthy food. Mom was considered a health nut and exercise fanatic.
After age 50, Mom won dozens of 10-K running races in Detroit.
A great role model.
In the photo, on the left is crabby Beth, 2. I'm 7, in a spotted swimsuit, shivering after getting out of Lake Michigan. Cold wind.
Mom and Dad were high school sweethearts. After dad died at 51, she moved to Florida.
"I don't fall in because there are sharks in the water, " Mom said about windsurfing on the Gulf of Mexico.
