My Christian mother has just recently discovered the comedian Ricky Gervais. She thinks he is funny.
However, if she knew that he is an Atheist, she would probably stop watching him.
I would laugh, but the truth is I have the same reaction when I find out someone is a fundamentalist, or a Scientologist, or a Republican.
One of my favorite things to do is to be a likable, kind, loving person so that when people eventually understand that I'm an unbeliever, it forces them (usually for just a microsecond) to re-evaluate their preconceptions and stereotypes of atheists. It's pointless, but good fun.
Concur!
