It seems to me that there's ultimately no point to believing in a god. Even if one existed, it would be so far outside our realm of understanding. We couldn't say anything about the characteristics and motives of such a being, as we inherently would have no way to measure it's reliability. With a god being so infinite by definition, there will always be some aspect of a god that would be beyond our knowledge.

I think the proposition of figuring out what to do given the existence of a god is absurd. Even if I had proof that a god existed, I think it would be ridiculous to try to please such an enigmatic being. It also seems foolish to expect that humans would be the ultimate focus of a being that created a whole universe on a whim.

I think about it in a similar way to the idea that life is a computer simulation. No matter how likely it is, the scope of such an idea is too absurdly large for an expectation to be placed on any actions made in response to it. In a preemptive sense, action would be indistinguishable from inaction.

Gods as generally posited are non-falsifiable and so would be beyond meaningful discussion even if they were within the scope of our intellectual capabilities. They are non-falsifiable because they are non-examinable due to being located in alleged "supernatural" realms. We don't even have senses that operate outside the natural world, so it's just a non-starter on multiple fronts to discuss the characteristics and demands of deities upon humans.

If we had never heard of the invalid concept of a god, I think it would have changed many of our other ideas. I think we have inherited many ideas from religion. The idea that there is something outside of knowledge, our idea of perfection being outside of human achievement, society's ideas of morality, a priori knowledge, and many other ideas are examples.

You’ve said what I’ve thought all along. It’s senseless to argue or fret over the existence of God when we have no idea what God is and no way of understanding. In public I prefer not to even say the word “God” because the word means different things to different people and is likely to be taken in a way I don’t intend. Also some people were scared out of their minds when they were children by God talk.

I’ve started saying “Ultimate Reality”. Obviously there is an ultimate reality but that too is far beyond our ability to detect or understand. I think that life, with its conscious awareness is a precious gift, but so far as what it means or where it comes from, we are totally ignorant. We don’t even know what we ourselves are and the very concept of existence is a big muddle to me.
