Does it matter?

I'm not being flip. I mean that sincerely.

Do you need to know whether God exists--in order to love your family and friends, be kind, help your neighbor, do your duty, take pride in a job well done, care for the environment, work toward peace, or whatever else you feel like? No judgment here, by the way, whatever your answer is. It's just a prompt for thought.

Do you need to know whether God exists in order to find meaning in your life, or know what to do with yourself? Again, no judgment. Maybe you do need to know in order to make sense of things.

If that's the case, I would suggest you have a go, thought-experiement-wise, at imagining what navigating the above would be like if you let go of that need to know. Can you find meaning in life--purpose--without a God in the picture? Can you imagine yourself working, loving, being, doing, creating--all with your very own self as the highest authority in your life? If the buck stops with you--you make the rules, you make the meaning, you are the authority--what would that feel like?

Maybe you don't like that scenario. Maybe it feels wrong, freaks you out. Maybe you just can't do it. If it's not for you, it's not for you; I'm not going to judge. But try it, at least. See what it feels like, what comes up for you. I wouldn't worry about God (if there is one) being mad at you for using the brain he gave you to think in this manner.

As for me, I don't spend a lot of time thinking about whether a God exists, because it's just not important to me. I have meaning and purpose in my life; I know right from wrong; I don't feel the need to look outside myself for values or "answers."

That was really good. 🙂

What does your mind tell you? "Who" indicates a "person", closest I've come is an actor playing a role....."exist" have to ask "by what definition of the word?....in order to try to give "god" some validity, religion has to distort the definition of words. I do not find any rational validity to the existance of a god.....

The question of Ultimate Reality or whatever you choose to call it is a deep mystery. Personally I think there’s probably some sort of higher power in the universe, but there’s no way of defining or describing that power and whatever we might say about it is meaningless jabber. Our little human pea brains don’t work at that level.

What we do have is the experience of conscious awareness, and that is very significant somehow IMO. I am trying to enjoy each second and not stew too much over questions that are out of my league. Sometimes I slip up.

I'll probably get shit for this, but I'm not an agnostic... I'm an atheist. I am thus far 100% convinced there is no god, or gods, and there never were. I am convinced of this fact due to the complete lack of evidence to even hint at there being any gods that hasn't been debunked or proven to be complete bullshit and fairy tales... Everything we know to be fact about the universe we have learned and confirmed through the scientific method. Anything that cannot be tested with the scientific method does not exist in any tangible form or is theoretical. The Theory that god or gods exist has been tested ad nauseum and has produced zero results to suggest that gods exist. A complete and utter lack of evidence to support that theory in the entirety of all human existence other than a few storybooks from the Middle East written thousands of years ago and have been proven demonstrably false time and time again. That's a pretty astoundingly shitty track record. Two thousand years of testing and wrong every time... So, being that the only reason people believe in gods is because of these storybooks, then logically there is no reason to believe in them at all. If any solid evidence is ever presented, I'll give it the consideration it deserves. So far, nothing close to even consider has been presented. No proof equals does not exist. QED.

No roasting from me as atheism and agnosticism are not mutually exclusive. Like you I have absolutely no belief in any of the gods proposed in modern mythology. Thus I am an atheiest.
However, I do not know that in any universe, in any form, that a god of some description could not exist.

I don't know, I believe nobody does and never will.

I don't know.

More than likely not.

Perhaps if you could define which god you are referring to I could give you a better answer.

Lots of choices. No easy answers.

A thing that helped me was reading up on the evolutionary forces that created us; both biological and psychological. The more we understand our human nature, the better questions we can formulate.

It is creation itself. The big bang , the big bump, membrane or what ever, When it all began it all began. The energy present at that time remains today and you are part of it. We are all intermingled in a vibration of atoms and with that various groups form, and various organisms form. God is you and knowing the energy you come with. Religion is a human god type of thing and complete bullshit. The real deal is how you are you.
