I'm watching the Bush burial as I write this. How about the jet-plane flyover. What an ignorant and vain display of power and conceit. The money wasted on this ostentatious news show could have been used to alleviate suffering in the country and world. In the box (casket) is nothing but a piece of dead meat and they're saying prayers to it. What a waste of time and money.

What’s tragic is how, by comparison (even to his idiot son), dying Republicans appear moderate, some almost progressive in comparison to what’s followed.... But, their actions led to a chipping away of civility that they must be held accountable for.. This guy hadn’t the sense or decency to realize the long-term detrimental effects of his ‘conservative’ policies, thus remains nothing to admire.

Thanks for the replies. We all see the world in different ways. I myself have had a hard time in this country dating back to Vietnam so I realize I might be overly critical. To me, the Bush family is saying to the country and the world: Aren't we a unique family? Aren't we patriotic, loyal and simply lovely. But to me W. Bush committed genocide with Operation Shock and Awe in Baghdad. He killed thousands of innocent people.

Wasn't trying to be a dick with my comment about hypocrisy. One of my sayings is 'to be hypocritical is to be human', even though animals can be hypocritical.. I just get annoyed with using wasted money as a reason to complain about something. If you don't like something, I'm sure there's plenty of other reasons to not like it. Using the money wasted as a reason just looks bad to me cause we are all guilty of it and more times than not, don't care to use our own money for the cause that we think it'd be better spent on.

Now these reasons here are ok in my book.

Start adding and you will find any number of poorly spent funds, like the presidential train that went 87 miles.
All this for the man that ended being able to discharge student loans in a bankruptcy. A whole generation, now two, plus, fall down and are beaten before they can rise up again.

The Apotheosis of the dead pharaoh is nothing new, been going on for tens of thousands of years

There's a million and a half things that we could say we could do without where the money would be much better spent elsewhere. I know very little of Bush senior, but he was our president and our last president to see combat. Many people would like to honor that. I didn't watch the funeral at all, but with him being a pilot that was supposedly shot down, I can see a flyover as being a good way for people to honor him.

Sorry, but complaining about money being spent on pointless things just because you don't like said pointless things is annoying to me. Everyone wastes resources on something that someone else would find pointless, so unless you don't waste resources on anything other than basic, pure survival, complaining is kind of hypocritical.

Think about how much money people spend to be able to access social media like this site. Being online isn't necessary and if everyone on this site alone took all the money spent on things needed to access it (cell phone, computer, monthly cell/internet service, resources needed to power everything) they could help alleviate suffering in this country and the world.

See?

I kinda just asked this on another post but what should be done for Obama’s funeral?
I’m not a fan of H.W. Bush but I’m not fucking ignorant either.
He was the youngest and maybe still is the youngest pilot to have flown in the navy ( which could possibly explain the flyover ) and like him or not he was still and elected president of the United States.
So once again I’ll ask does President Obama deserve to have a funeral with some pomp and circumstance and maybe in his case a drone flyover?

@Dave75 Yes that’s always been the case

It's kind of an odd thing to watch a dead for in a box being carted all over the country
