Here's a thought: maybe all these new fabulous medications on the market would be more affordable, and thus accessible, if the companies weren't spending millions on direct advertising.

Advertising and congressional lobbying. Two things Bernie Sanders has pointed out that big pharma spends more on than research.

Agreed. There are an amazing amount of ads on CNN for drugs . . .

They're everywhere. My point is this. No physician gets their info on new meds from tv, we know about these things before they ever get approved by the FDA. This is direct marketing to patients. All they see is this wonderful new med and are told to go ask their Dr. for it by name. But they aren't told that insurance isn't going to cover it (except rare circumstances where they've failed the other drugs that work just as well), and it more likely than not isn't going to apply to their needs to begin with. It's a ton of misinformation that health care providers have to sort out, and the patients leave feeling underserved.
