A joyous Lupercalia -
Celebrated February 14th and 15th.
At this time many of the noble youths and magistrates would run naked throughout the city for sport and laughter striking those they met with shaggy thongs. Many women of rank purposely got in their way, and like children at school, would present their hands to be struck, believing that the pregnant would thus be helped in delivery, and the barren to pregnancy.
