My husband’s uncle put this to the test on Christmas Eve 1979.... he drank Paraquat which is a weedkiller! He had a horrible agonising and lingering death over several days. He had joined an extreme group of Plymouth Brethern and it had literally driven him round the bend. He went into Psychiatric hospital the week before, but discharged himself to be at home with his wife and two children for Christmas. After they all went to bed on Christmas Eve he drank the weedkiller to test his faith....he was a farmer and had a shotgun which would have been instant, but the whole point was that he didn’t want to commit suicide, but believed that god would not let him die. A dangerous, dangerous book ...the bible.

The last half of Mark 16 is widely acknowledged even by inerrantists as a late addition that probably isn't in the original. So the irony is that the poison-drinkers and snake-handlers are obeying commands that were just spliced in by some scribe. Probably a real rapscallion, that one.

Im sure you're "taking this out of context"

No, there are sects that drink stycnine (usually watered down for the survivors) and, of course, those that dance with vipers, another bible quote. (Odd, funny thing just happened - My word correct changed vipers to bikers, what an image that would be)

@WeaZ there are more than one. I saw a 60 minutes on a guy who catches rattlesnakes for pay. He was about to lose most of his income as West Virginia banned the catching and selling of the snakes, but not the dancing.

@Beowulfsfriend im being sarcastic...

@Freespirit64 ok. Sounded pretty true. I wouldn't doubt it has happened somewhere in Appalachia.
