My wife is going on a cruise, I drove her to Chicago airport.... At a rest stop, she is walking fast towards the building ( or running slow, either way ) and I am sitting in the car watching her when she trips and I see at the distance in slow motion how she goes down and she is not even half way down when in my brain I picture her standing up really fast making sure no one saw her. In a split second I see she is still flat on the floor and she is not moving. Scared the crap out of me. I jumped off the car and ran as fast as I could to help her. She got a nasty bruise in one knee and she hit her head with a metal fence but no cut, no blood. She was scared and disoriented when I helped her to get up. I was so helpless and broken that I couldn't do anything to prevent this from happening. All I could do was to hug her and calm her down. No, she didn't cry. She never does.... Well, we found a store open in Chicago where she bought some med for bruises and she was good to go. She is a tough cookie. Later on she got on her flight to catch her cruise. It's going to take some time for me to erase that moment where things changed in a split second and there's nothing I could have done. We both were graceful because it could have been way worst. What a way to start this year, hopefully it's not a trend. She is 4 hours from landing in the far east as I type. What did I confirm, that even when we have split for a long time, we do care for each other.

A small "ah-ha" moment that you were wise enough to recognize and appreciate!

I am so glad she (and you!) are alright...she will have an interesting start to her remaining wonderful story of her cruise!

Yeah, no doubt. She was a bit sad about her scratches on her knee.... not good for the bikini look, so I thought and I told her that it could have been worst like a scratch on her face or even a missing tooth and she actually surprised me big time with her answer, very uncharacteristic of her, she said "At this point in my life, I don't think I would've care much for anything".... I was like wow (Looks has been a big thing for her since forever). I am pretty sure years from today we won't even remember where did she go, but we will remember this incident. Yeah, I am glad she is ok. Even telling the story to one of our daughters was very emotional for me.

@IamNobody My lovely sister was expected to attend a high tea in Chicago with a group of women. The day before, she was eating and her front tooth did break off right at the root! Normally, my sister would have been mortified...age has made her see the humor in life and she figured out a clever way to get by without anyone knowing: she used her night guard tray, stuck the broken tooth in it, and wore it all day!

Here is the ah-ha moment: she showed everyone at the high tea what she had done! ha ha ha ...twenty years ago, she would have not gone...

@thinktwice Thanks for sharing !!!!! We age and we change, that's for sure. I hope she is fine now !!!

Nothing like a little “trip” to reaffirm your love.
Very sweet that you still have that nice connection.

It's been a long haul and we have had our ups and downs but we have gone through so much that we have much to be thankful to each other. I have to admit that I was a bit surprised on how shock I really was. It's really nice to have you all to talk about it. It really helps and a lot of comments provide very good insight from an outside perspective. I do thank everyone.

I'm glad she is ok.

You have to make the most of every second of not hurting you get with everyone you meet, even those you only half like let alone the ones you love. They all get hurt or leave one day.

Yes, we think we are ready but when it happens then...… it wasn't pleasant at all. I do realize it could have been way worse.

@IamNobody Hope she gets safe back.

@Fernapple Thanks, adventure is her middle name 🙂

The things just happen when we expect less, that's why to have cherish every moment with loved person. It's good that she is ok now and you care each other..

Thanks, that's my point exactly and that's probably the lesson learned from me. I have never been good at expressing anything and that's something I need to change. I am working on.
