I find them confusing...even a picture of their cat would be better to know to whom I was speaking to...

@Elganned I am a visual person and immediately associate an avatar to the username...when the picture is the same, you have to look at the username to distinguish to whom you are talking. I don't use it to tell me anything about a person as I read profiles in advance if I am interested...I just used a cat as an example...you could use anything that would distinguish yourself from others that use the same canned photo...frankly, it is just a fast way to recognize people ...
