I have another question. Can a person be politically extreme and still maintain a bit of decorum?

(Everyone seems so fucking testy these days. Or is it just me?)

The label extreme is usually cast upon anyone when successfully opposes the "other" ....FEMINISM is a universal birthright we all come from mothers free or raped....yet Feminists are called EXTREME. ...Atheism is our birthright ALL ARE BORN Atheists yet we are branded EXTREME even by our liberal Unitarian or Agnostic peers. ...moderate dems moderate gop both take back seats to shrill Pelosi and Rand Paul....the battlefield will always be thus as long as war profiteers and theocracy rules

One of the problems Democrats have, or had, is that they accepted extreme GOP positions as viable or reasonable and progressive positions as far left and not the general position of the party. Things like "Dreamers are bad people", "the extremely high gun violence rate is not because of guns", "Obama wasn't born in America", "government is the problem and cannot fix problems" and my favorite, "billionaires are the job creators". There is not now, nor has their ever been proof that any of these things are true, instead of calling them on it the Dems rolled over and actually debated the merits of these insane positions. Now what do we have? Children taken for their parents with no accountability, insane spending on military, horrible persons in charge of the EPA, DOE, treasury and now dissolving NATO? How can anybody of reasonable intelligence not become animated about these things? We cannot let them slide, we have to fight-we are left with no option.

Can't say I know of any Democrats who would agree with any of those things, though I certainly don't talk with all that many people about politics. Do you have any sources for this?

Anyway I was wondering if there is any hope of talking calmly about stuff. The way things are going now, I am concerned that we will are moving towards a civil crisis with potentially serious instability. I suspect that those who mean us harm could find that to be a very useful state. I am sure someone is benefiting from the polarization. That seems to be how the current president got elected, via the inflammation of emotions on both sides.

@itsmedammit we already have civil crisis. You don't sit a committee and calmly discuss the ongoing fire in the building you are in. You yell fire loudly, you push people toward the door. I can give you names and quotes of current and former members of our state department, military and Congress as well as former presidents, but you know this. Obviously you cannot see or understand the gravity and timing of the current crisis or you would not have framed your post the way you did. We have already waited too long.

@clarkatticus I can see alright. And what I see is a lot of name-calling and distractions, crap that doesn't do anyone any good but stir up emotions. “Hate is a More Powerful Motivator than Love.” Roger Stone said that and he used exactly that belief to get the current president elected in. Very informative movie, Get Me Roger Stone is currently on Netflix. At least it was informative for me.

@itsmedammit what pleasant name do you call people that separated children from their parents. Think about it, what if they were your kids?

@clarkatticus You seem to be suggesting that I support the separation of children from parents?
What bizarre route did you have to take to get there?

@itsmedammit no, I don't think you support that. What I think is that you minimize it, like it's not the horrible policy that it is. If that is the only thing this administration had done I would still think the perpetrators should be imprisoned. I am sorry it is uncomfortable for folks like you that people like me are so emotional about these things. I am sure many find it awkward in person. At least I hope they do, maybe they will stop supporting the people that do these things. I am sure people that first lived under Hitler didn't want to offend anyone, and yes, that is exactly where this is heading.

@clarkatticus "folks like you" What are those, exactly? You don't even know me.

@itsmedammit don't be obtuse

@clarkatticus You keep attacking me, in an attempt to provoke. And actually it strikes a nerve because your approach reminds me of my insane, right extremist brother, who also likes to make assumptions about people. I can tell you that his approach will never convert anyone, which is my point.
